John first played drums on a public theatre stage at the age of 12 before joing a pop group ( that toured with the late Buddy Holly's Crickets )  ,and then a band which won the county beat group championship a couple of years later. Intensive touring through the sixties and into the seventies ,he became weary of the constraints of a band and decided to go freelance ,becoming first call drummer at several studios. At  this same time he became in demand with various musicians /singers for live work , ( and during 1981 worked on stage for twenty different artistes ). In 1990 he opened a musical instrument shop which he retained for a few years before deciding he did not have time to oversee the business. To date he has shared the stage with Jeff Beck ,Van Morrison ,The Yardbirds , The Bee Gees , Ruby Murray, jimmy Crawford, Georgie Fame and many more.

Equipment wise John has become very choosey playing DW  ,Corder and 1965 Ludig kits , Axis pedals, Hardcase International cases, plus Sabian cymbals
